Studying The Bible With Precision And Clarity
Understanding the Bible properly is the most urgent task facing any generation. God’s word is the supreme authority over man as it is God speaking and instructing his finest creation: human beings. We are created in the image of God and with this comes great, dire and urgent responsibility.
Foremost of these is understanding the gospel and its implications properly. In order to comprehend this amazing gospel we must rightly cut the word of truth.
Some tips:
Understand that God works through covenants. The first one that we know of is called the Covenant of Redemption and was made within the Trinity before the world was formed.
When we understand the Bible is God’s plan to redeem his people for his glory, it will vastly improve our grasp of books and passages throughout the Bible.
Clear passages always interpret less clear and the Bible contains mystery but never contradiction
Work from larger to smaller: In other words Theme of the Book, Chapter, Verses, Words to understand the passage.
There is only 1 correct interpretation of every passage: The Holy Spirit’s intending meaning, there are many possible applications. Sometimes there is debate among Christians as to the proper interpretation but in the final analysis The Holy Spirit’s meaning is the correct one.
The word of God is meant to be understood. We call this the perspicuity of Scripture.
