Praying The Bible

We live in a very distracted world… cell phones ding, emails bing, and videos are crammed with advertisements. This can make praying for prolonged periods of time difficult because our attention spans and minds have been trained to wander.

Here’s an idea that may help:

Pray through the Bible as you are reading it.

Worship in the Splendor of Holiness

96 Oh sing to the Lord a new song;
    sing to the Lord, all the earth!

Ex: Thank you God that you have made all things for your glory.

Sing to the Lord, bless his name;
    tell of his salvation from day to day.

Ex: Help me to tell others about the gospel to the praise of your glory and grace.

Declare his glory among the nations,
    his marvelous works among all the peoples!
For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised;
    he is to be feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols,
    but the Lord made the heavens.
Splendor and majesty are before him;
    strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.

Ascribe to the Lord, O families of the peoples,
    ascribe to the Lord glory and strength!
Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
    bring an offering, and come into his courts!
Worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness;[a]
    tremble before him, all the earth!

10 Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns!
    Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved;
    he will judge the peoples with equity.”

11 Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice;
    let the sea roar, and all that fills it;
12     let the field exult, and everything in it!
Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy
13     before the Lord, for he comes,
    for he comes to judge the earth.
He will judge the world in righteousness,
    and the peoples in his faithfulness. Psalm 96

The Bible itself can be your outline to guide your prayers. This is helpful because it focuses you on the Triune God of the Bible and not just our day to day needs. This also means you will never run out of things to pray about.

As an added benefit praying through the Bible can also help you to learn chapters of the Bible very well as you focus on responding in prayer.

Do you have a favorite way to pray?

Thanks for reading,
