Singing Hymns as a Family

Singing hymns together is one of our favorite activities. Not only does it make us happy it also makes worship more than just intellectual Bible study. We have learned many hymns as a family and sometimes we change out the tempo or switch songs mid singing to see if the family can keep up which always brings smiles.

Ex: Amazing grace verse 1 to, How Great Thou Art, to Go Tell It On The Mountain, to And Can It Be. etc, it is a lot of fun but may not be for everyone :)

Hymns can be sung:

  • At your small group

  • In the morning

  • At night time

  • While driving

  • While cleaning up

  • At Church

Hymns also teach great theological truth that is also practical. Remember, orthodoxy should always lead to doxology (Praise). Consider that the largest book in the Bible (# of Chapters Jeremiah has 33,002 words…the weeping Prophet had a lot to say) is dedicated to Praising God through song and in Isaiah 6 the Angels sing: Holy, Holy, Holy, night and day.

If you don’t have a good hymnal we recommend Hymns of Grace by Masters press.
