Why You Should Use a Chalk Board

Have you ever seen or experienced your children struggling to pay attention and focus during discipleship time? We certainly have! This can make discipleship time very similar to a “rodeo meets gymnastics” at least with our 2 year-old….

Let me back up…. having worked with kids all over Nashville teaching them the Bible and having a designated area for them to sit and using colors or paint is essential. About two months ago we decided to add a chalkboard to our living room (we homeschool so we thought it would be helpful for that among other things).

As the kids, tumbled, twirled, and ran through discipleship time I continued to pray for a way to get them to focus and mentioned it to my wife… then what should have been obvious came to me like an RC Sproul bolt of lightning… use colored chalk on the chalkboard to teach them each morning and each night… (RC is legendary for his chalkboard use in teaching adults).

We’re not talking boring white chalk…. we’re talking pictures and lots of bright colors. The girls are very focused and can’t wait to help illustrate the lesson or point we are learning and I highly recommend this to anyone leading discipleship time.

Thanks for reading a simple can of chalkboard paint (some painters tape) and several coats is all you need to do this.

Have a great day! If you need help getting started leave a comment I would be happy to help.
