The Bible is meant to be understood. This is called the perspicuity of Scripture. However, there are rules that must be applied. Here are helpful tips:
There is only 1 correct interpretation of a passage: The Holy Spirit’s intended meaning.
a. There can be varied ways you apply this truth to your life but you don’t make the mistake of letting your feelings guide or distort what God is communicating.
Truth exists because God never lies and never changes. The Bible is God’s redemptive plan to save His people for His glory. Every text connects to this theme.
Never interpret a verse by itself. Go in this order: Bible - Book - Chapter - Paragraph/section - Verse - Individual Words In Original Languages.
If you keep the 3 recommendations above you will avoid many of the pitfalls that plague so many.
Bonus - The Bible is God Breathed and a spiritual book. If you are not born-again (indwelt by the Holy Spirit) you will not be able to understand the Bible and will have no desire to love Jesus in truth or his words.
